“Date Night” tops the weekend box office

The weekly date of a boring New Jersey couple beats the almighty gods of Olympus this weekend at the box office.

Former Saturday Night Live cast Steve Carell and Tina Fey star in “Date Night” which hauled a total of $9.3 million in America, beating “Clash of the Titans” which gained only $8.5 million, this weekend.  The Dreamworks animation “How to Train your Dragon” finished third with $7.1 million.

Since its release, Date Night has already garnered good reviews even if it runs on a common plot. This proves that Carell and Fey can deliver top notch comedy as they play a harmless couple going on a disastrous date night.

Date Night is about a New Jersey couple Phil (Carell) and Claire (Fey) Foster who go to a posh New York restaurant to spice up their weekly dates. Unfortunately, the retaurant is fully booked for the night. Determined to have a romantic dinner there, the couple decides to steal a reservation by taking their name. Apparently, violent thugs were looking for the couple that the Fosters impersonated. The night starts to go downhill at that point as the Fosters go on an action filled ride.

The film also stars Mark Wahlberg, Ray Liotta, James Franco, and Mila Kunis.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s “The Last Song” came up 4th on the box office, with $3.6 million. “Tyler Perry’s Why did I get Married Too?” finished 5th with $3.5 million.
