Thai Protesters Won’t Give Up; Emergency Declared

BANGKOK, Thailand — Protesters on Friday declined a request by Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat to end their blockades of Bangkok’s two airports, saying they would oppose any efforts by police to displace them.
The government declared a state of emergency at the Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports in Bangkok late yesterday, empowering police to clear demonstrations and public gatherings of more than five people, with army backup.
Under a state of emergency, the government can suspend civil liberties, ban public gatherings and take other measures to restore order without imposing broader restrictions …

Howard leads Magic in a 105-90 victory over Wizards

Dwight Howard scored 26 points and added 14 rebounds to help the Orlando Magic in a 105-90 victory over the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center.

Edna Parker, the world’s oldest person dies at 115

Edna Parker, listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest person alive, passed away Wedenesday at a nursing home in Shelbyville, Indiana. She was 115.
Parker was formally designated the oldest living person in 2007 when Yone Minagawa of Japan died. Minagawa was four months older than Parker.

2 dead, 5 missing in Air New Zealand crash

PARIS — Seven passengers were feared dead after an Air New Zealand airliner crashed off France’s southern coast on Thursday. Rescuers have found the body of two crew members but five others are still missing.
The Airbus A320 jet was on a test flight after undertaking maintenance at Perpignan airport in the south of France. Local officials say the plane was operating normally when it crashed into the sea.

Middlesex postpones India arrival after Mumbai attacks

LONDON: Cricket’s Middlesex captain Shaun Udal has said the English county would not be going to Mumbai as planned after the terror attacks hit the Indian city.
The team were due to fly to Mumbai on Thursday for the inaugural Twenty20 Champions League but former England off-spinner Udal told Sky Sports: “All we know is our flight has been cancelled in the morning.”
