Bush grants more pardons

It has become an ideal guessing game: Who will President Bush forgive at the end of his term?
With just two more months left to his presidency, President George W. Bush on Monday granted pardons to 14 individuals and commuted the prison sentences of two others.
The pardons were given for offenses ranging from distribution of marijuana to unauthorized use of a registered pesticide, a Justice Department statement said.

YouTube Goes Widescreen

YouTube announced on its blog that they’re formally changing the dimension and aspect ratio of the standard video player on the site.

We’re expanding the width of the page to 960 pixels to better reflect the quality of the videos you create and the screens that you use to watch them. This new, wider player is in a widescreen aspect ratio which we hope will provide you with a cleaner, more powerful viewing experience. Heidi & Spencer married secretly on Mexican beach

The Hills’ Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt had allegedly married in Mexico.
Reality TV’s most annoying couple is said to have walked down the aisle in a secret ceremony on a Mexican beach. There were no family members present for the ceremony, which lasted only 15 minutes.

“I’m very excited for Heidi and Spencer and wish them a lifetime of happiness together,” Audrina Patridge tells OK! magazine.

Fake MySpace leads to death threats

Wicked hackers have stolen a woman’s life, creating a fake MySpace page that has prompted death threats.
The page on the phony social networking site included photos of the woman, personal information, the type of car she drove and explicit messages.

Shanae Starks told how she had been under attack for weeks after friends found the page and alerted her.
She said: “I thought, ‘Oh, this could cost me my life’. It’s not my page, but that’s my face.”
Her humiliation turned to fear when the messages started including threats and comments about gangs.

Thieves destroy religious statue

MANILA, Philippines — A historic religious idol in a cathedral in Masbate lost its head and hands, made of ivory, to thieves.
The icon named after St. Anthony Padua, patron saint for missing and stolen items had been in the church for the last 40 years.
Masbate Bishop Joel Baylon said the theft of the parts of the two-foot tall figure of the Immaculate Conception was discovered during the second morning mass on Sunday at the St. Anthony De Padua Cathedral in Masbate City.

Wizards Fire Eddie Jordan

The Washington Wizards fired coach Eddie Jordan after opening the season 1-10 without injured starters Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood. According to sources, Ed Tapscott now runs the team.
Why would the Wizards fire their coach 11 games into the season? It’s not Jordan’s fault the Wizards suffered major injuries. The pressure was great but was not fair in this case.
Eddie Jordan is an exceptional coach who did the best he possibly could with less-than-stellar talent.

Obama picks Desiree Rogers as social secretary

Barack Obama is taking another Chicagoan to Washington D.C.
Desiree Rogers, a friend of the Obamas’ will serve as White House social secretary, leaving her current job at Allstate Financial, a unit of the Northbrook-based insurance firm, where she is president of social networking.
She would be the first African-American to hold the post.
She will be the decider on who gets to come to White House parties, State dinners and other gatherings.

Baghdad bomb attacks kill at least 19

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Explosions rocked Baghdad’s heavily guarded Green Zone on Monday, killing 19 people two days before parliament was to vote on a military pact that would allow US forces to remain in the country for up to three more years.
