KABUL, Afghanistan — A suicide bomber has hit a government building in Afghanistan in an attempt to attack a meeting of tribal elders. The bomber blew himself near an Afghan school on Sunday, killing 16 people, 14 of them children, and 58 were wounded, the AP reports.
U.S. Gen. David McKiernan, the top NATO commander in Afghanistan, said he believes that Siraj Haqqani’s militant network was responsible for the attack.

The Bahia Emerald, an 850 pound emerald worth about as musch as $370 Million was recovered and now is in Los Angeles Country Sheriff’s Department.
The Bahia Emerald was reported to be stolen in September from a secured vault in South El Monte, L.A. Lt. Thomas Grubb, the LA Sheriff said that the report was made by the so-called owner of the “850-pounder” rock.

More than 155 people were killed after Israel attacked Gaza Strip via series of air strikes on multiple targets, TimesOnline reports.
Security compounds run by the Hamas militant group were destroyed by missiles, killing dozens of people and many were buried under the rubble. According to Moawiya Hassanain, a Gaza Health Ministry official, there were over 250 wounded people.

The Los Angeles Lakers has defeated the reigning NBA Champions Boston Celtics in their first meeting this season at the Staples Center. The two teams’ last encounter was in the 2008 NBA Finals.
Lakers snapped the Celtics’ franchise-best 19-game winning streak, and a 10-game road winning streak. Los Angeles won with the score 92-83, dominating the Celtics in the fourth quarter with 21 points against Celtics’ 16, including a 12 to 3 run.

The retail giant Walmart has announced that they will be selling the Apple iPhone on their US Stores starting Sunday, December 28.
Wal-Mart will sell the phones for $2 less than the regular price with a two-year contract: $197 for the 8-gigabyte model, or $297 for the 16-gigabyte model. Best Buy is discounting the phone by $9.

John Costelloe, the actor who plays the gay lover of a closeted mobster on the HBO TV series “The Sopranos” has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in New York.
New York police confirmed that the body of the actor was found dead on December 18 in his home in Brooklyn. E online said that it was an apparent suicide.

Japan’s largest advertising agency, Dentsu, will team up with Nintendo Co Ltd to offer a video distribution service on Nintendo Wii console, according to Reuters.
The two companies had not settled on what type of programming they would create for the service. According to another report by Nikkei, original cartoons and other entertainment programs are under consideration. Some of the fare will be free, while other material will require a fee.
Nintendo and Dentsu will start the new service early next year in Japan, followed by overseas launches later in the year. …
