IHOP to serve free pancakes on National Pancake Day

IHOP or International House of Pancakes has announced plans to give millions of pancakes for free in celebration of the National Pancake Day on the 24th of February 2009. IHOP is world-renowned for its buttermilk pancakes plans to set a goal to raise $1 million for Children’s Miracle Network, a non-profit organization helping children’s hospitals.

Earthquake hits Southern Philippines on Christmas day

MANILA, Philippines–A magnitude-6.1 quake rocked General Santos City before noon of Christmas Day but no damage or injuries have been reported.
In a live interview on radio dzMM, Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said the earthquake struck at 11:20 a.m., 85 kilometers, south of General Santos.
Earlier, USGS reported another quake in Mindanao. The 4.9-magnitude quake was recorded at 07:56 a.m. local time (2356 GMT), with the epicenter 900 kilometers southwest of Manila at a depth of 96.5 kilometers.

US weather causes flight setbacks, cancellations, accidents

The snow, combined with tremendously low visibility and strong wind gusts caused widespread delays and cancellation of flights across the U.S.
About 500 travellers had to spend overnight Tuesday at Chicago’s O’Hare International, the second busiest airport in the United States, after stormy weather cancelled more than 500 flights Tuesday, said Chicago Aviation Department spokeswoman Karen Pride. More than 100 flights were cancelled at O’Hare on Wednesday.

Travelers to San Francisco were warned that arriving flights could be delayed up to one hour and 47 minutes because of strong winds.

Mark Everett – former child-star killed in LA

Mark Everett born as Manuel Benitez, was a former American child actor in Hollywood films. He was a fugitive wanted by the FBI for the bludgeoning murder of Stephanie Spears in Hawthorne in 2004. He was reported shot and killed by police officers responding to a hostage situation in El Monte, California on Wednesday.
Everett was killed after a 2-hour standoff as he held his 7-year-old son hostage in a restaurant, the authorities said. The boy was reported wounded.

Wal-Mart agrees to pay $640M for wage cases

Wal-Mart agreed Tuesday to pay as much as $640 million to settle allegations that the company didn’t pay workers for overtime or let them take breaks.
The world’s largest retailer, which has more than 1.4 million employees, said the amount it pays will depend on how many claims are submitted by eligible workers and could range from $352 million to $640 million.
