Gov. Blagojevich thrown out of office

Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has been ousted from office Thursday after lawmakers voted unanimously to convict him. The vote was televised live from the state capitol building in Springfield.
The state Senate voted 59 to 0 that Blagojevich abused his power and should be removed from office. The ouster marked the first time in 20 years that a sitting US governor was overthrown.
“I’m obviously saddened and disappointed by what’s happened, but not surprised,” Blagojevich said outside his Chicago home after being removed from office.
