Sen. John Kerry to hold hearings on the future of newspapers

Beginning April 30th, Sen. John F. Kerry will hold hearings in Washington on the problems facing the newspaper industry. In a letter sent to the Boston Globe’s union, Kerry wrote he wants to ensure that the “vital public service newspapers provide does not disappear.”

Salina Kosgei, Deriba Merga prevail in 2009 Boston Marathon

Kenya’s Salina Kosgei beat defending champion Dire Tune of Ethiopia in a dramatic stretch duel, to win the women’s division of the 113th Boston Marathon, Monday. In the men’s race, Deriba Merga of Ethiopia crossed the line in a time of two hours eight minutes 42 seconds to pocket the $150,000 first prize ahead of Kenya’s Daniel Rono.

GlaxoSmithKline to acquire Stiefel for $3.6 billion

British pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline said Monday it will buy American skincare group Stiefel Laboratories in a deal worth up to $3.6 billion.
