Defendant shot dead after attacking judge
A man accused of killing his girlfriend was shot dead at the San Joaquin County Courthouse Wednesday after he attacked the judge presiding over his murder trial, the Stockton Record reports.
David Paradiso, 28, was on the stand when Judge Cinda Fox dismissed the jury for a recess after the defendant’s mother became upset and left the courtroom. He then walked behind the bench and began attacking and punching the judge, possibly stabbing her.
Bailiffs ran to the judge’s aid and fired three shots at Paradiso, who was killed.
Fox was carried out on a stretcher and had bandages around her left forearm but was conscious and alert, the newspaper said.
