“Desperate Housewives” To End in 2012

Wisteria Lane will be closed for good next year, as ABC announced that its “iconic show,” the drama “Desperate Housewives,” is set for its final season.

ABC said on Sunday that “Desperate Housewives” will end its run in 2012, once the soon-to-start eighth season concludes. “The only thing harder than creating a hit show is knowing when to end, especially when you have one of most amazing casts in the history of television,” show creator Marc Cherry said as he stressed the need to end the show while it’s still ahead. “I am very aware of people overstaying their welcome … I wanted to get out while the network still saw us as a viable show, while we were still a force to be contended with.”

The eighth season will see the show’s main stars—Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, and Felicity Huffman—deal with more intrigues and a new neighbor played by Vanessa Williams. The final season will begin its run on September 25 and ends in May 2012.
