Disney to Distribute 2 Marvel Films
In a step to further fully capitalize its acquisition of Marvel Entertainment, media and entertainment conglomerate Walt Disney has acquired the rights to distribute two Marvel films from Paramount Studios.
Walt Disney acquired Marvel Entertainment last year but deals to distribute the latter’s movies were still under a contract with Paramount Studios.
The two films that will be distributed by Disney are The Avengers (logo pictured), which has a release date of May 4, 2012 and Iron Man 3, which has a release date of May 3, 2013.
Paramount still has the rights to distribute two upcoming Marvel films which are Thor, which has a release data of May 6, 2011 and Captain America: The First Avenger, which has a release date of July 22, 2011.
The rights to distribute were bought with an amount of 115 million dollars, the minimum distribution fee that Paramount was guaranteed before. Paramount will still earn revenues from home videos from the first two Iron Man films, as well as that of Thor and Captain America.
