District 9 Movie Review
Just finished watching District 9 and I must say that it is a movie worth watching. If you want drama, action and sci-fi in one, then this is it. The movie’s presentation is different as it was done documentary style ala Cloverfield and Quarantine.
The story revolves around a group of aliens who are stranded on Earth (specifically in Johannesburg, South Africa) since the 1980s. Since then, they have lived on our planet as “squatters” in slums. Though the movie depicts them as a disoriented bunch, there is another side to them with all their high-tech weaponry which everyone (governments and corporations of the world…) wants.
District 9 is actually disturbing in a way. It depicts how cruel and greedy humans are in real life by showing what governments and private corporations do just to gain an advantage in our world. Is human life more important than loads of money? District 9 answers that.
Normally, in other alien movies, we are left hanging with the mystery question – what will they do to us? In District 9, it is the other way around, what will we do to them? The answer to that question is eye-opening once you have watched the movie.
