Divorce Finalized for Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren
The divorce between the world’s number one golf player and his Swedish wife has been finalized and announced by their lawyers Monday, August 23.
Tiger Woods, 34, and Elin Nordegren, 30, ended their almost six year marriage though they will still be parenting their two children jointly.
“We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future. While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us,” said the joint statement from the couple.
Describing the marriage to be “irretrievably broken”, the divorce was granted by Judge Pittman Biebel.
Details regarding the divorce, and all the settlements such as the financial parts were not disclosed. One item though is that Nordegren’s stand to use again her maiden name.
Woods was embattled by the sex scandal that broke out after he went through a car accident just outside his home during last year’s Thanksgiving. Details of his infidelity spiraled out days after that forcing the athlete to take a break, undergo counseling and treatment and issue a public apology. Some of the golfer’s endorsements were also cancelled due to the scandal.
