Dominican Republic police torture people with onions
Police in the Dominican Republic have been torturing people with onions to obtain information about crimes, the National Commission on Human Rights (NCHR) has alleged.
According to a report from Daily Mail, the organization has documented dozens of cases in which police forced the vegetables into victim’s mouths to make them feel as if they were asphyxiating.
Some people also had onions stuffed into their rectums, the NCHR’s vice president claimed.
The Dominican Republic, a nation on the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean region, has a poor record in respecting human rights, the U.S. State Department has said.
