A university in the United Kingdom is to offer a Master’s degree in social networking, but it will cost students more than $6000.

According to the Telegraph, the one-year MA in Social Media will cover sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Bebo and will start next year at Birmingham City University.

Through this program, students will learn how to set up blogs, publish podcasts, and make the most of the social media websites for communications and marketing.

Jon Hickman, the course convener said: “It’s not for freaks or IT geeks. The tools learned on this course will be accessible to many people. It will definitely appeal to students looking to go into professions including journalism and PR.”

However,  Jamie Waterman, a Birmingham-based student wasn’t as enthusiastic, saying that “virtually all of the content of this course is so basic it can be self-taught. In fact most people know all this stuff already. I think it’s a complete waste of university resources.”
