El Clasico: Real Madrid vs. FC Barcelona Preview

Tonight, virtually all of Europe will come to a halt to witness the most highly anticipated match of the season as FC Barcelona takes on Real Madrid at Camp Nou.

It might be hard to swallow for Premier League enthusiasts but this is definitely the biggest club game on the planet. Los Blancos have won 72 titles overall, while the Catalan giants have claimed 67.

For the first time, cinemas across Spain will show a football game live! If you don’t like football (or soccer if you’re from the US), it’s the worst place on earth to be.

Millions of fans will watch Lionel Messi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thierry Henry, Xavi and Andres Iniesta clash against Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Kaka, Xabi Alonso and Iker Casillas.

And when Barca defend their home field against Manuel Pellegrini’s side, it will be more than a football match. For hardcores it is another episode in the history of Catalan freedom fighters defending their legacy against Franco’s Castilian fascists.

Messi and Ibrahimovic have reportedly been cleared by Barca to play this evening. Both players worked out with the full squad on Saturday and will reportedly be available for “The Greatest Show on Earth”.

Ibrahimovic is coming off a hamstring problem in his left leg while Messi from an abductor tear in his left thigh.

As for Madrid, a massive boost for them comes in the form of Ronaldo returning from injury. The 24-year-old Portuguese winger was featured last Wednesday during Los Blancos’ Champions League victory over FC Zurich following a long layoff.

Prediction: Real may lead La Liga with CR9 back in action but the Blaugrana have shown that even without their top-flight players they can still produce excellent results. I’m rooting for Barca to win this time around.
