Elizabeth Edwards Dies at 61
The estranged wife of a former US vice-presidential candidate lost her battle against cancer and died Tuesday, December 7.
Elizabeth Edwards died of metastatic breast cancer at her family home in Chapone Hill, North Carolina 10:15 AM. She was 61.
“Today we have lost the comfort of Elizabeth’s presence but she remains the heart of this family. We love her and will never know anyone more inspiring or full of life,” said the statement released by the family.
Elizabeth was the wife of former US Senator John Edwards. She is survived by three out of their four children, namely Catherine, Emma Claire and Jack. Their eldest child Wade died in 1996.
Elizabeth and John were legally separated after the latter admitted to being a father of a child with a mistress last January. She was supposed to file for a divorce after the mandatory one-year separation.
The former lawyer disclosed that she has cancer after the 2004 presidential elections where her husband lost the vice presidency. She immediately went under treatment and it was said that it went into remission. The cancer however came back in 2007.
