Emma Stone Gets Spiderman Reboot Role but not as Mary Jane Watson
Emma Stone did get a role for the reboot of the Spiderman series. However, it was not for the role that was initially reported.
Stone, 21, was first reported to play the role of Mary Jane Watson, the role previously held by Kirsten Dunst. However, the role she got was that of Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker’s first love interest in the comic books.
The actress was thought to get the Watson role since she has red hair like that sported by the comic book character.
Before the announcement, the actresses believed to have been on the running for the Stacy character were Dianna Agron (Glee), Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland), Georgina Haig (Wasted on the Young) and Dominique McElligott (Moon).
With Stone now as Stacy, all eyes are now more focused on who will actually get the Watson role. Some say that the actresses mentioned above might be considered.
Andrew Garfield of The Social Network (currently being shown in theaters) has been cast as Spiderman.
The film is expected to be released July 3, 2012 in 3D format.
