Emma Thompson Gets a Star
Academy Award winner Emma Thompson has become the latest celebrity to be honored with her own star on the sidewalk of the famous Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.
Thompson, the 51-year-old star of “Sense and Sensibility,” was immortalized on the Walk of Fame on Friday, with “Nanny McPhee Returns” co-star Maggie Gyllenhaal among those present to witness the event. “House” star Hugh Laurie was also on hand to support his former sweetheart. Thompson and Laurie dated when they were both students at the University of Cambridge in England. Thompson’s star is located outside the renowned Pig ‘n Whistle pub.
Thompson has been one of Hollywood’s best actresses over the years, winning the Academy Award for best actress in 1992 for “Howard’s End.” She bagged her second Oscar trophy in 1996, when she won for best adapted screenplay for “Sense and Sensibility.” Thompson will be seen next in the second installment of the “Nanny McPhee” franchise, “Nanny McPhee Returns,” which debuts in the United States on August 20.
