England beats Ukraine in World Cup qualifier (Video)

With four minutes remaining, John Terry scored the winning goal Wednesday to lead England to a 2-1 victory against Ukraine and extend their perfect start in their World Cup qualifying campaign.

The England captain scored from close range after Steven Gerrard had touched on David Beckham‘s free kick as Fabio Capello’s squad stayed five points clear at the top of Group 6.

“I am happy for John Terry and the team, Coach Fabio Capello said. “It was a very tough game. We suffered in the second half. We showed patience and saw the character of the players, particularly that second half.”

England leads the group on 15 points. Croatia is second on 10 after they won 2-0 in Andorra on Wednesday, with Ukraine third on seven points.

“A lot of players played very well, Capello added. “They played like a group, like a team and this is very important. You can win only when you play as a team. It is not easy to play against Ukraine. Not easy to find space.”
