EPL: City Edges Bolton, Grabs Top Spot
Manchester City’s hiring frenzy during the offseason appears to be bearing fruits this early as Roberto Mancini’s boys defeated the hard fighting Bolton Wanderers, 3-2, at the Reebok Stadium on Sunday.
City used two first-half goals from David Silva and Gareth Barry en route to the team’s second victory in as many matches. The victory gave Manchester City a perfect six points to share the top of the table with a surprising Wolverhampton.
Silva opened the scoring for the visitors in the 26th minute as Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen let slip the Spanish’s shot from just inside the area. Barry doubled City’s lead in the 37th minute with a strike from 25 yards. The Wanderers responded two minutes later courtesy of an Ivan Klasnic cross. Manchester quickly restored a two-goal lead shortly after the break as Edin Dzeko found the net two minutes into the second half. Bolton captain Kevin Davies gave the home team a flicker of hope of salvaging a point as he headed home a 63rd-minute free kick. It proved, however, to be the final goal of the match as City held on.
