Ex-Falcon Jamal Anderson arrested on drug charges

Former Atlanta Falcons running back Jamal Anderson was arrested early Sunday on two charges of drug possession.

Anderson has been charged with felony cocaine possession and misdemeanor marijuana possession, authorities said.

According to Atlanta police, Anderson and another man were arrested at the Peachtree Tavern in Atlanta’s uptown district of Buckhead. Both men were discovered with cocaine powder in their possession and police officers also found a suspected marijuana cigarette in Anderson’s pocket.

A seventh-round draft selection in 1994, Anderson played eight seasons with the Falcons, collecting 5,336 rushing yards, 156 receptions for 1,645 yards, and 41 touchdowns before he went through a career-ending tear of his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in 2001.

Anderson helped lead the Falcons to their first NFC title and Super Bowl appearance in 1998.
