F1 Driver Robert Kubica Seriously Injured in Crash
Robert Kubica‘s preparation for the upcoming Formula One season is in danger of being derailed after the Lotus Renault driver suffered multiple injuries in a crash on Sunday.
Reports said Kubica was competing in the Ronde di Andora Rally in Italy when the accident happened. The 26-year-old from Poland reportedly lost control of his Skoda Fabia car, which careened off the road and slammed into a wall of a building. Kubica suffered multiple injuries to his arms, hand, and leg. He was brought to the Hospital Santa Corona di Pietra Ligure, where he is undergoing surgery. The Renault team confirmed the bad news but refused to divulge any other details about Kubica’s condition. “Lotus Renault GP will issue another statement as soon as more information is known about Robert’s condition,” the team said in a statement.
Kubica, who finished eighth in the driver’s championship the previous season, is expected to miss this week’s test sessions and may not be able to recover in time for the season-opening Bahrain GP next month.
