FA Cup Semi-final: Chelsea vs. Aston Villa
Premier League leaders Chelsea will be looking to complete the resurrection of their season by booking an FA Cup final spot when they face Aston Villa tonight (17:00 BST) at the famed Wembley Stadium in London, England.
The West Londoners’ season looked in danger of falling apart last month after they were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League against Italian heavyweights Inter Milan and falling behind Manchester United at the top of the table.
Chelsea chalked up a convincing 7-1 victory at Stamford Bridge when they met Villa in the EPL on March 27, but captain John Terry expects tonight’s match to be a far more even contest.
“It is going to be a totally different game,” the former England captain told Chelsea’s official website. “It is a bigger pitch at Wembley and they will probably have one or two more players back from injury as well, so we need to make sure when we go in to the game we forget what has happened recently and approach it the way we normally would.”
The Villains are regarded as underdogs in this encounter, but manager Martin O’Neill insists his side will not be going to battle “to make up the numbers”.
UPDATE: Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda and Frank Lampard scored second-half goals to put the Blues in the FA Cup final for the third time in four seasons. Final score: 3-0
