Female Chinese students eat roundworm eggs to look skinny
Female students in the Chinese city of Xiamen are reported to be eating roundworm eggs in an attempt to shed pounds and look skinny when appearing for job interviews.
The nematodes hatch in the stomach, allowing those who take them to lose weight without exercising or dieting. The process has no scientific basis and it can lead to severe health problems. However, China has a huge unemployment rate, and women over there force themselves to look thin in order to land a job.
“China is facing huge employment pressures at present and for the foreseeable future,” the Daily Mail quoted Yi Chengji, spokesman for the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security as saying.
There were 9.21 million registered urban jobless in China at the end of 2009, resulting in just a 4.3 per cent urban unemployment rate.
I suppose natural methods of weight loss aren’t good enough for some people so they resort to regular consumption of roundworm eggs.
