Ferguson Says Rooney Wants to Leave
Wayne Rooney has intimated to Manchester United bosses that he wants to leave Old Trafford when his contract ends next year, team manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed in a recent interview.
Ferguson said Rooney’s agent has informed the United management as early as August that the striker has no plans to re-sign with the club. “It was a shock. We couldn’t believe it because, in earlier discussions – as early as February or March I think – he intimated he wanted to stay, he wanted to sign a life contract,” said Ferguson, who is rumored to have had a falling out with Rooney in recent weeks.
Ferguson said there was no truth to the falling out rumors. “There’s been no falling out. That’s why we need to clarify the situation now for our fans,” Ferguson said. News about the falling out came out after Rooney was ruled out for three weeks due to an ankle injury, which the player has reportedly denied ever suffering from.
