Filipino Becomes World’s Shortest Man
Junrey Balawing of Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines was to officially become the world’s shortest man on Sunday, a representative of the Guinness World Records said.
Balawing, who turns 18 on Sunday, was measured at around two feet or 24 inches when he was measured from head to foot while lying down. He was an inch shorter when he was measured while standing, the municipal health officer of Sindangan was quoted as saying on Saturday. Balawing will replace Nepal’s Khagendra Thapa Magar, who stands 26.4 inches tall. Khagendra took over the title of the world’s shortest man on October 14, 2010. Prior to Khagendra, Edward Nino Hernandez of Colombia held the title.
A representative of the Guinness World Records will announce the Filipino teenager’s record on Sunday. Meanwhile, the local government of Sindangan was expected to hold a birthday party for Balawing, whose condition, according to her mother, was first discovered when he was one-year-old.
