Final Fantasy XIII Released in Japan
The much-anticipated game Final Fantasy XIII was released today in Japan. The wait was not just because it has been more than three years since Final Fantasy XII has been released or that it is the first Final Fantasy game in Playstation 3 (PS3) but it is one of the primary games projected to increase the sales of struggling PS3.
The game is also released for XBox 360.
“I hope the game will perform well in the year-end and New Year holiday season. I guarantee the game’s quality,” said SquareEnix president Yoichi Wada. It is the 19th game to get a rating of 39/40 from Japanese video game magazine Famitsu.
Also, in a rare case, the lead hero of the game is a woman with codename Lightning.
The game has two partner games but they are not in any way related to the story of FFXIII, but they are set in the same universe. These are Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3) and Final Fantasy Agito XIII (PSP). No release dates yet for these games.
FF13 has also been given a prequel novel entitled Final Fantasy XIII Episode Zero. It is set in the thirteen days preceding the main events of FF13. The official version is in Japanese. An official English version is not out yet but many final fantasy fans made self-translations available in the Internet.
The game will be released in English-speaking countries on March 9, 2010.
