Firefighters called to rescue plastic swan
Concerned passers-by who saw a “swan” trapped in a frozen pond in Straubing, Germany dialed 999 in an effort to rescue the creature.
A team of 25 firefighters then went on the thin ice to save the poor bird – only to find it was a plastic decoy left there by fishermen to scare away other birds.
One firefighter said: “We had to search for ages until we found the location. The ice was not very thick so it was quite a dangerous rescue. But when we got there we found a plastic swan and not a real swan.”
It was an utter waste of time. Glad to know that people acted, though!
