First ever Barbie live action film in the works

Berlin Gears Up For Fashion Events

First came Transformers. Then came G. I. Joe. Now comes another popular toy character to get movie star treatment. It’s none other than the queen of the toy industry herself, Barbie.

After making a deal with Mattel, Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to develop a live action movie featuring the American toy company’s signature doll. Barbie has appeared in more than 15  direct-to-video animated films, but never in her 50-year reign has she been in a live action movie. Universal Pictures chairman Marc Shmuger remarked,

“Barbie is the most famous doll in history, a unique cultural icon in the world of brands. So many representations of Barbie frequent pop culture, but never before has she been brought to life in a motion picture. We’re grateful to Mattel for entrusting us with this extraordinary opportunity.”

No official word yet on which actress is set to play the blond fashion doll as well as which director is approached to take the helm. I just hope it’s not going to be a bleached Megan Fox and a subdued Michael Bay.
