Former chef to Charles and Diana to sell his collection of personal letters
Royal chef Mervyn Wycherley, who worked as the chef in the Royal household for 22 years, is selling his souvenirs from his time with the Royal couple and then the Princess, who he worked for after the marriage fell apart.
Items include a Valentine card from the Princess, a birthday card from the young Princes and a card showing 24 condoms hanging on two washing lines, as well as other impressive forms of messages.
He revealed Diana craved bacon sarnies while pregnant and told how Charles’s bodyguards would radio ahead to ensure his boiled eggs were cooked at exactly four minutes.
The chef, who now runs his own business Retro Catering in London, cooked for Charles and Diana on their honeymoon on the Royal Yacht Britannia in 1981 and continued to cook for the princess at Kensington Palace after the couple separated in 1992.
Mervyn is now selling 100 items from his collection, with reserve prices ranging from £60 to £1,500, at an auction in Colchester, Essex, on November 24.
It’s nice to know more about Princess Diana’s past and her sense of humor.
