Former NBA bad boy to play in China
Former Trailblazer Bonzi Wells has signed for a one year contract with Shanxi Zhongyu of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).
Wells, who arrived in China on Friday, insisted he’s no longer a bad boy. He said he had matured and he would fit in with his new teammates.
“I will not have any problems with the coaches. I am not a bad boy,” the Basketball Pioneers newspaper on Monday quoted Wells as saying.
The 32-year-old will join coach Bob Weiss to improve Shanxi’s overall standing.
Wells averaged 12.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in his 10-year NBA career, during which he played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings and the Houston Rockets, as well as Portland.
The club manager Zhang Beihai denied a rumour of 80,000 U.S.-dollar salary for the former teammate of Yao Ming, saying Well’s salary is around half of the amount.
Wells is expected to play on Friday.
