Foxy Costume Gets Under Fire
Friends of Animals group gave an open letter to the American athlete asking him to stop wearing fur. The group even contacted his costume designer Stephanie Handler over the issue.
Weir responded with these words: “I totally get the dirtiness of the fur industry and how terrible it is to animals. But it’s not something that’s the No. 1 priority in my life. There are humans dying everyday. There are thousands if not millions of homeless people in New York City. Look at what just happened in Haiti. I tend to focus my energy, if there is a cause, on humans. While that may be callous and bad of me, it’s my choice.”
He did however give a counterattack in behalf of his costume designer. He was furious about the idea of people contacting her about his costumes. He said that the choices are his decisions and are requesting people to send complaints directly to him.
Weir placed third at the competition qualifying him for the upcoming Vancouver Winter Olympics next month. He is a three-time U.S. National Champion (2004-2006), the 2008 Worlds bronze medalist, a two-time Grand Prix Final medalist and the 2001 World Junior Champion.
