Frances “Alice Horton” Reid Dead at 95
The actress who portrayed Alice Horton since the inception of Days of Our Lives died Wednesday, February 3.
Frances Reid has been playing the matriarchal role in the third-longest running soap opera in the United States since it began in November 8, 1965. She first appeared in the television version of the radio soap opera Portia Faces Life from 1954 to 1955. She next portrayed Grace Baker on As The World Turns from 1959 to 1962, and Rose Pollack on The Edge of Night in 1964.
She was actually hesitant to accept the role in Days of Our Lives, which she played for more than four decades.
She was awarded the Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004 and was inducted in to the Television Academy Archives in 2003. She won awards for Outstanding Actress in a Mature Role in Soap Opera Digest Awards in 1978, 1979, 1984 and 1985.
Reid was married to actor Philip Bourneuf from June 27, 1940 until his death in 1979.
