French Open Women’s Final (Safina vs. Kuznetsova)
World No.1 Dinara Safina faces fellow Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova at the French Open final today (June 6) aiming to secure her first Grand Slam title.
The championship match will be the 14th meeting between the two players.
Safina was runner-up to Ana Ivanovic last year at Roland Garros, and lost this year’s Australian Open final to Serena Williams. She has a 7-4 record against Kuznetsova, and they split two meetings in finals last month.
The two players, both 23, have been friends and rivals since they were juniors. They will be vying for a title worth 1.06 million euros ($1.5 million).
