International Friendly: Netherlands vs. Japan

The Netherlands (Holland) take on Japan this afternoon in a friendly match as preparation for next year’s World Cup in South Africa.

While most teams are still fighting for a WC spot in crucial qualifiers, both sides have already made the cut and will have the luxury of testing their skills against unfamiliar opponents.

The Netherlands is one of the few European countries that have already qualified for South Africa after finishing first in group nine of the UEFA World Cup Qualification round.

Like Oranje, Japan also managed to qualify for the World Championships relatively easy.

After this match, the Dutch travels to Scotland for a qualifier on Wednesday while Japan takes on Ghana in Utrecht in an exhibition match.

Game time is 2:00 p.m. CET (8:00 a.m. ET) at Grolsch Veste, Enschede.

UPDATE: Robin van Persie, Wesley Sneijder and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar each scored to give the Netherlands a 3-0 victory against Japan.
