Tonight, the Los Angeles Galaxy take on Spanish giant FC Barcelona in an exhibition, and David Beckham hopes that a minor back injury will not prevent him from playing against one of the best teams in the world.

The former England captain said the pain flared up a few days ago but it did not prevent him from working out. Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said that Becks was just nursing something and he’s expecting him to be complete tonight.

Barcelona is on a three-game West Coast swing as it prepares for the upcoming European season. The tour will continue in Seattle, where the Spanish club plays the Sounders on Wednesday at Qwest Field. On Aug. 8, Barca will wrap up its tour with a game against Mexican powerhouse Chivas de Guadalajara in San Francisco.

Tonight’s match may not be as intense as a Barca-Madrid rivalry, but an anticipated crowd of 80,000 will watch the game.

Game time is 8:00 p.m. (11 p.m. ET, 4 a.m. CET) at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

UPDATE: David Beckham silenced some fans and sent others into frenzy with a first half goal via free kick but that wasn’t enough as Barcelona held on for the win. Pedro Rodriguez and Jeffren Suarez scored to give the Spanish side a 2-1 exhibition victory over L.A.
