Gary Brooks Faulkner: God Ordered Me to Hunt Down Bin Laden
Gary Brooks Faulkner, an American who was detained in Pakistan after he was found in possession of deadly weapons, has reportedly told investigators that he was ordered by God to hunt down al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and make him answer for the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States.
Faulkner, a 50-year-old construction worker from Greeley, Colorado, was detained late Sunday after police found a 40-inch sword, a pistol, and night-vision equipment among his belongings. Security officers started looking for him after he checked out of a hotel in the town of Bumbarate without informing his police escort. Pakistan usually assigns an escort to foreigners who wish to visit the country’s remote regions. Faulkner was found in a forest, presumably on his way to the Afghan region of Nuristan, one of the places where bin Laden is believed to be hiding.
Faulkner had been to Pakistan at least six times, his brother said. A devout Christian, Faulkner has learned to speak several local languages in an effort to blend in with local communities.
His sister, Deanna, said Faulkner is suffering from a kidney ailment that requires him to undergo dialysis regularly. “I’m worried that in Pakistan they won’t give him his dialysis and if he doesn’t get it, he’s in serious trouble,” she said. However, a local doctor who examined Faulkner said the American is not gravely ill.
Faulkner’s brother, Scott, said Gary was not suffering from any mental disorder. “He’s as normal as you and I…He’s just very passionate.”
