Giants receiver Plaxico Burress accidentally shot at nightclub

New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress, accidentally shot himself in the leg at a night club Friday night, FOXSports.com reported.

Burress, 31, spent the evening in the hospital with the injuries, which aren’t life threatening, the Web site said.

A spokesman for the Giants on Saturday told PA SportsTicker that the team had no comment, although they acknowledged they are aware there was an incident.

Burress had already been ruled out of Sunday’s game against Washington Redskins after aggravating a hamstring injury last week in the game against the Arizona Cardinals.

It has already been a turbulent season for Burress, who missed the team’s October 5 game against the Seattle Seahawks after being suspended for violating team rules, failing to show up at a team meeting and making himself unavailable by phone.

Burress signed a five-year, $35 million contract this fall after helping the Giants to a Super Bowl championship last season.

Domenik Hixon, who is dealing with an ankle injury, will start in Burress’ place.
