With their hopes hanging by a thread, Jamaica will tackle El Salvador tonight—closing Group A preliminary play in the 2009 edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The Reggae Boyz must secure a comprehensive victory to possibly advance to the quarter-finals. Having lost both their games, 0-1 to Canada and Costa Rica, the Jamaicans are firmly rooted at the bottom of the four-team group with zero points. The group is led by Canada on six points, followed by Costa Rica and El Salvador on three each.
Game time is 9 p.m. EDT at the Florida International University (FIU) Stadium.
UPDATE: Omar Cummings scored with a flick of his right foot midway through the second half and Jamaica beat El Salvador 1-0. The victory was Jamaica’s first but also put the Reggae Boyz in third place of Group A with 3 points.
