Graduate student at Virginia Tech stabbed to death
Another tragedy has come to Virginia Tech after a student was stabbed to death Wednesday night, January 21, 2009.
It was the first killing at the school since a deadly mass shooting occurred in 2007.
The murder took place at the Graduate Life Center of the campus wherein an Asian female graduate student was found dead.
A male suspect was taken into custody according to a university news release. 25-year-old Haiyang Zhu was charged with first-degree murder and was being held without bond.
Campus police received the call about the stabbing just after 7 p.m. When officers arrive, the woman was already dead.
Investigators said the pair knew each other. They found a knife at the scene, that they believe to be the murder weapon.
Va. Tech. spokesperson Larry Hincker said the school is trying to inform the family of both the suspect and the victim, but it is difficult because they are not from the U.S.
