Heroes Cup: England vs. World XI


England football legends and celebrities take on the Rest of the World XI tonight (7:45 pm) at the Madejski Stadium in a bid to raise money for the Help for Heroes, a charity which seeks to provide better facilities for wounded British troops.

Stars on the England side include former players Neil Webb, Andy Cole, and Paul Gascoigne as well as Ralf Little, Angus Deayton and Danny Dyer from the world of entertainment.

This will be Cole’s first competitive outing since retiring from top flight football in 2008.

The Rest of the World squad includes: Toto Schillachi, Owen Coyle, Owen Coyle, Gus Poyet, Joe Calzaghe, Thomas Helmer and many others.

Lawrie Sanchez will be in charge of the World team, while Alan Curbishley will coach the England squad. Both teams will be wearing a special Heroes Cup badge on their uniforms designed by a 10-year-old schoolboy.

This special charity game, which is being broadcast to all British troops serving around the world, is being staged the day after Armistice Day.
