Leading the pack are Brad Pitt and UN Ambassador Angelina Jolie who donated one million dollars from Jolie-Pitt Foundation. The money will go to Doctors Without Borders and Medecins Sans Frontieres whose three hospitals in capital Port-au-Prince were severely damaged forcing the staff to work out of open-air hospitals.

House actress Olivia Wilde made an appeal to people that she will give a personalized video message to those who would give donations of not less than 200 dollars.

Several celebrities took a break from their usual Twitter activities to ask help from their followers. These celebrities include Adam Lambert, Rainn Wilson, Lindsay Lohan, Demi Moore, Alyssa Milano, Nicole Richie and Marlee Matlin.

But if there is any celebrity affected about the tragedy the most, that would be Jimmy Jean-Louis (pictured), the actor in the television series Heroes who plays the character “The Haitian”. He is in real-life from Haiti.

Several of his relatives have already died. News already reached him that his parents are safe but he has not yet talked to them.

“Haiti is a poor country – and we cannot cope with such a situation. Haiti needs help. We need the basics, water, cans, clothing. So however you can help would be really good for the country,” he said. He is urging people to donate through his foundation Hollywood Unites for Haiti (HUFH) which was created to promote sports and cultural activities for the underprivileged youth of Haiti.
