How To Watch Super Bowl XLV Live Online
The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers, two of the most storied franchises in NFL history, are set to collide in Super Bowl XLV this Sunday (6:30 p.m. Eastern) at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Picking a winner is difficult, as these are two of the most evenly-matched teams you’ll see in a Big Game. Offensively Green Bay has the best core group of receivers but both sides have elite quarterbacks and top-five defenses.
However, Pittsburgh is 6-1 all time in Super Bowl, with the only loss coming to the Dallas Cowboys (they were hammered 27-17) following the 1995 season. The Steelers have won more AFC Championship Games (eight) and played in (fifteen) and hosted more (eleven) conference championship games than any other AFC or NFC team.
Fourteen of the Pittsburgh’s’ 22 starters have won a Super Bowl and Ben Roethlisberger is trying to become only the fifth quarterback to win at least three. Victory over the Packers wil put Roethlisberger in the ranks of Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana, Troy Aikman and Tom Brady. While QBs can still be great without a Vince Lombardi Trophy, it is moments like these that can secure a quarterback’s place in the conversation of history’s elite.
Meanwhile, Steelers rookie Maurkice Pouncey has been ruled out of the Big Game after the 21-year-old center did not practice on Friday. Pouncey injured his left ankle early in Pittsburgh’s victory over the New York Jets in the AFC title game when linebacker Bryan Thomas rolled up on it from behind. Second-year offensive lineman Doug Legursky will start in Pouncey’s place, his first NFL start at center. The Steelers also listed defensive end Aaron Smith as out because of a torn triceps.
Not a football fan? Don’t worry because the Black Eyed Peas will perform at the halftime show, Christina Aguilera will do the national anthem and Glee’s Lea Michele will sing America the Beautiful. A lot of people are also excited for all the commercials that will air during the event.
Aguilera, who made her Super Bowl debut in 2000 as a half-time performer, said that it was an honor to again be a part of the Big Game. BEP’s Fergie, meanwhile, will be the first woman featured in the halftime show since Janet Jackson. The 35-year-old singer said: “It’ll be a party in the middle of the game. All of the sudden, whether your team is winning or losing, we want to make you have a good time. That’s our goal.”
She also stated that there would be no repeat of Jackson’s infamous “wardrobe malfunction” when the group plays at Cowboys Stadium. Jackson’s shirt came off during a performance with Justin Timberlake in 2004, and her bare breast was exposed. RnB superstar Usher and former Guns N’ Roses lead guitarist Slash will be performing as well.
UPDATE: The Green Bay Packers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 in Super Bowl XLV to win their fourth championship title.
