Howard leads Magic in a 105-90 victory over Wizards
Dwight Howard scored 26 points and added 14 rebounds to help the Orlando Magic in a 105-90 victory over the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center.
Hedo Turkoglu had 20 points and a season-high 10 rebounds for the Magic, who has won eight of its last nine games and six in a row on the road.
Howard collected six points in the first two minutes of play as the Magic stormed ahead before they put it into cruise control at the end of the quarter as Rashard Lewis, JJ Redick and Courtney Lee each buried three-pointers to help open up a 15-point lead.
Caron Butler added 25 points and six assists for the Wizards, who were coming off a 124-100 drubbing of Golden State on Tuesday but have dropped six of seven overall. Antawn Jamison ended with 17 points and 12 boards in defeat.
Dee Brown’s layup with just under 5 1/2 minutes left brought the Wizards within 95-79 but Washington was unable to close with a run down the stretch and Orlando claimed the victory.
Wizards’ coach Ed Tapscott said:
“We knew this is a pretty good team. They’ve won six straight games on the road. They’re a load,” Tapscott said. “They have a good rhythm now, they’re playing well and Dwight Howard is a force in the middle. His physicality got to us and we got into foul trouble early.”
