HP Recalls Laptop Batteries
Hewlett Packard issued an additional worldwide laptop battery recall from 25 of its models. A total of 54,000 lithium ion batteries are affected.
The recall followed a 70,000 battery recall last May 2009.
Batteries may cause overheating and may explode causing the unit to be damaged and injuries to the user. Two instances of this event were already reported to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (UP CPSC).
However, only batteries from products purchased between August 2007 and March 2008 are included in the recall. This will include the laptops themselves and any supplemental battery packs that were sold during the months mentioned.
HP also said that only 3% of units sold during that period would be under the recall. To check if an HP unit is included in the recall, check this link, which can be used to verify affected models.
Affected product lines are the following: HP Pavilion laptops, Compaq Presario laptops, HP laptops, and HP Compaq laptops.
