Indianapolis 500: Dario Franchitti wins, Ashley Judd celebrates (video)
Dario Franchitti won the Indianapolis 500 for the second time on Sunday as Helio Castroneves came up short in his effort to win the legendary US race for a record-tying fourth time.
The 37-year-old from Scotland, who started in third, had just enough fuel left to cross the finish line ahead of runner-up Dan Wheldon and his compatriot Alex Lloyd. Franchitti’s victory saw Chip Ganassi become the first owner to win the Indy and NASCAR’s Daytona 500 in the same year.
And did you see Ashley Judd outrun ESPN commentator Jerry Punch after the race? The Hollywood star couldn’t contain her excitement as she ran across the tarmac to congratulate her husband.
“The second time feels just as good,” Franchitti said of his win. “To come back after going away for a year, then win the championship and the Indy 500, I’m pretty damn near speechless right now.”
