Inglourious Basterds Wins in 16th SAG Awards

The 16th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards has been handed out at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles, California.sag-actor

For the ensemble casts, which are equivalent to the Best Picture and Best Television Series awards, Glee and Mad Men won for television and Inglourious Basterds won for film. The film stars Brad Pitt, who is not nominated.

In television, Alec Baldwin won his fifth award for 30 Rock. Upon accepting the trophy he said, “This was really unexpected.”

In film, it’s been a strikeout for Jeff Bridges, Sandra Bullock, Mo’Nique and Christoph Waltz. They have just put a better stronghold for the Oscars. They have won their respective categories in the Critics’ Choice Awards and the Golden Globes.

The results were practically identical with the winners of the Golden Globes with the sole exception for the TV Best Comedy Actress which was won by Tina Fey for 30 Rock. The Globes gave it to Toni Collette for United States of Tara. The rest are the same including those for the television mini-series.

The only sure fact before the show started was that Avatar won’t be gaining any awards, as it is not nominated in any category.

The SAG is a very reliable predictor for the Academy Awards, since the Actors (name of the SAG trophy), are voted by fellow actors (120,000 membership as of 2007) which is part of the voting block in the Oscars acting trophies.
