International Friendly: England vs. Denmark Live Stream (Free Online Video)
England vs. Denmark Live Stream: Because Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard are out injured, Frank Lampard will captain England in tonight’s friendly against Denmark at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. Ferdinand picked up a calf injury while warming up for Manchester United on Saturday, while Gerrard developed a groin problem as he helped Liverpool seal a 1-0 victory at Chelsea on Sunday.
Lampard becomes the 46th man to lead out the Three Lions since World War II and the sixth skipper under Fabio Capello. Yes, it’s only a friendly, but the 32-year-old playmaker will be the “proudest man” as he steps out with that armband on.
“It’s the highest honour you can get in football, playing for your country and then captaining them,” Lampard said. “I can’t wait. I’m very excited.”
Denmark, headed by Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner, has a pretty good record against England though. Morten Olsen’s side thwarted the Three Lions in both teams’ last two international friendlies. In 2003, the Danes edged 3-2 past the English before humiliating them 4-1 in 2005. The Red and Whites are currently third in Group C of EURO 2012 qualifying, behind Norway and Portugal.
Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott could assume responsibility for England but it is Wayne Rooney who is expected to lead the attack. The 25-year-old striker had an awful World Cup and has struggled for form at United, but Capello is persistent Rooney will do his share tonight.
UPDATE: The Three Lions came from behind to beat Denmark 2-1 in a football exhibition in Copenhagen, while France defeated Brazil 1-0 and Argentina edged Portugal 2-1 on Lionel Messi’s last-minute penalty.
