International Friendly: Portugal vs. Mozambique [UPDATED]
Portugal vs. Mozambique Live Stream: Portugal, semi-finalists at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, lock horns with the Black Mambas of Mozambique this afternoon in their final warm-up before their highly-anticipated match against Ivory Coast on June 15.
Ranked 85th in the FIFA World Rankings, Mozambique is not really a major player on the international football scene, but its players have been making a lot of progress so expect this match to be somehow competitive. The Seleccao, on the other hand, enters the World Cup finals as one of the most popular teams, led by former FIFA World Player of the Year winner and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Meanwhile, Portugal defender Pepe is back after a six-month absence due to a knee injury. His participation in South Africa was finally confirmed by the team’s medical staff. Pepe damaged the cruciate ligament in his knee while playing for Real in December and has not played since.
“Pepe will play quite a lot of minutes,” said coach Carlos Queiroz. “He will come on in the second half, when the team lowers the rhythm of the game and the intensity.”
The match kicks-off at 16:30 CET.
UPDATE: Werder Bremen forward Hugo Almeida scored twice as Portugal defeated Mozambique 3-0 in their final friendly before the World Cup.
