iPad Hits 1-Million Sales Mark in 1st Month
Apple honcho Steve Jobs has announced through a statement that the one millionth iPad unit has been sold on Friday, the 28th day since the gadget’s much-anticipated release. The iPad’s achievement trumps by a mile the record set by the iPhone, which took 74 days to reach the one-million sales mark.
Jobs said demand for the iPhone continues to exceed supply, prompting Apple to double its efforts to satisfy all those who want to get their hands on the phenomenal device. Aside from grabbing all iPads in sight, customers have also downloaded more than 12 million applications over the same period. Apple’s iBookstore has also sold more than 1.5 million e-books.
Apple is hard pressed to increase production of the device, whose international release has been delayed by high US demand. The iPad’s Wi-Fi only version sold 300,000 units on its first day, including pre-orders. Jobs’ announcement comes amid controversy over a lost prototype of the iPad’s 4G version.
